George Gessert is an artist and writer. He has exhibited widely, including at the Smithsonian Institution, San Francisco's Exploratorium, and the Moscow Biennale. Among his books is Green Light, published by MIT Press. He was included in Best American Essays (2007, David Foster Wallace, ed.) and has received a Pushcart Prize. He lives in rural Oregon
